Small ship cruise line Windstar Cruises announced today that it’s planning to operate its newest vessel, Star Seeker, in Alaska and Japan when it joins the fleet in 2026.

Windstar most recently sailed in Alaska and Japan last year, before redeploying Star Breeze to be the year-round ship in Tahiti. “We are really happy to be able to bring back Alaska and Japan for our guests,” said Windstar’s President Christopher Prelog. “We know these are popular destinations, and we have many people asking us to return there. We can’t keep this secret any longer.”

Star Seeker will sail in Alaska from May through August in seven, 10, and 11-day voyages between Juneau or Seward, Alaska and Vancouver. Pre and post-cruise land tours to Denali will be available as well.

In Alaska, Windstar will employ expedition leaders on board to lead its Signature Expeditions as it did during previous Alaska seasons. To explore remote wilderness areas such as the Misty Fjords, guests can book hiking, kayaking, and skiff small-group expeditions through the cruise line. Expedition leaders will also give presentations on the ship to bring Alaska’s rich history, culture, flora, and fauna to life.

After departing Alaska in late August, Star Seeker will sail to Japan to begin the line’s popular 10-day Grand Japan voyages sailing between Tokyo and Osaka. The vessel will remain in Japan through November.

In April, Windstar Cruises announced the addition of two new ships — Star Seeker and Star Explorer — to its fleet of boutique yachts. Each will have 112 suites for a guest capacity of 224 and will be similar to the line’s current Star Class motor yachts. Star Seeker is scheduled for a December 2025 delivery, while Star Explorer is set to be delivered in December 2026.

Windstar plans to have Star Seeker‘s new deployment details online and bookable this August.

As one of the few cruise lines to sail in the Mediterranean in the winter, Windstar Cruises is leaning into the growing trend of off-season travel.

Today, the small-ship line has announced its 2025-2026 winter Mediterranean schedule, including six unique itineraries plus six Star Collectors, or voyages that combine itineraries for more in-depth exploration. These competitively-priced Star Collector sailings (which include free laundry service) invite guests to stay longer and experience even more of Europe.

Along with the opening of new sailings, Windstar Cruises is pairing an Early Booking Offer which includes a $200 onboard credit per cabin plus a free upgrade to All-Inclusive Fares. That means that wifi, gratuities, and unlimited beer, wine, and cocktails are provided at no additional cost. This offer expires on October 31, 2025.

“Winter in the Mediterranean is a fantastic time to see a different side of this magical region, get to know the locals, and celebrate special holidays like Christmas in Florence, New Years in Dubrovnik, and Carnevale across Italy,” said Windstar’s President Christopher Prelog. “Sailing year-round in the Mediterranean has been very successful for Windstar, so much so that we are now expanding our winter offerings due to its popularity.”

Windstar’s winter sailings highlight ports that it doesn’t normally visit in the summer like Valencia, Spain; Crotone, Italy; and Catania in Sicily. The 2025-2026 season also debuts a brand-new port for the line: Genoa, Italy. There, guests can visit the most important maritime museum in the Mediterranean, experience the biggest aquarium in Europe, or wander the Palazzi dei Rolli — a group of stunning palaces from the late 16th and early 17th centuries.

The season will also include overnights in Dubrovnik, Venice, Nice, Barcelona, Malaga, and Livorno (Florence) making long days of exploration possible, as well as late drinks and dinners while in town.

All of these 2025-2026 winter Mediterranean cruises will take place aboard the 312-guest Star Legend, which has a minimum of 277 square feet accommodations.

The vessel features five dining veues: Amphora, Veranda, Candles, Star Grill by Stephen Raichlen, and Cuadro 44 by Anthony Sasso. Chefs continue to shop for fresh seafood, produce, and local specialty items to bring the flavors of the destination on board even during the winter months.

Additionally, sailing just after the harvest is a plus for wine tours when winemakers have more time for personalized attention amidst the cellar season. Passengers also have the chance to enjoy treats from the region’s Christmas markets during this time of year.

These winter Windstar Cruises sailings will depart from Athens, Barcelona, Malaga, Rome, and Venice from November 2025 through March 2026.

]]>

There is no better time than the present to start planning the ultimate Alaska cruise. If you are looking to book that bucket list cruise, we have put together our list of the Best Alaska Cruises 2024.

Even if you are not planning to book your trip of a lifetime this year, our list will give you a good starting point to begin researching your vacation.

Table of Contents

Considerations for Best Alaska Cruises 2024

When picking your Alaska cruise, there are a few considerations to keep in mind:

 • Your Alaska cruise budget
 • Your preferred Alaska cruise departure point
 • Your preferred Alaska cruise itinerary
 • The demographics of your travel party

OUR PICKS FOR TOP ALASKA CRUISES VIDEO

Alaska Cruise Budget

Your cruise budget will be one of the primary factors in determining which of the best Alaska Cruises 2024 you pick. The list ranges from family-friendly cruise lines to more all-inclusive, luxury cruise lines. Of course, even within a cruise line, the price can vary considerably based on time of year you travel, the type of cruise cabin you pick, and other factors.

We have more information on Alaska cruise costs and the best time of year to visit Alaska based on several factors like weather, crowds, and price on our blog. These articles can help you determine the best time for your family to plan a cruise to Alaska and what you should budget for the entire trip.

Travel Party Demographics

Along the same lines, you will want to consider your travel party. The age, activity levels, and interests will be another big deciding factor in which ship you choose for your Alaska cruise. The selections for best Alaska cruises 2024 vary in terms of ship size and amenities. If you are cruising with kids or a multi-generational family, you will want to ensure the ship has activities that will interest everyone. Yes, Alaska cruises are a great vacation for the whole family!

However, if you are looking for less kids onboard, a more enriching experience, or a more all-inclusive vacation, you may want to avoid the more mainstream family cruise lines.

Cruise Departure Port and Itinerary

With that being said though, we always say that Alaska cruises are more about the destination than the ship itself. There will be long days of sightseeing and Alaskan adventures. So, you may not even have time (or be too tired) to enjoy all the amenities. If you don’t want the distractions or the FOMO, you may want a ship with less bells and whistles.

Most major cruise lines have a variety of ships sailing to Alaska, so there will be plenty of choices. Thus, you’ll want to examine the itineraries closely before booking your cruise. Some key elements are the departure point, the ports of call you’ll visit, and the glaciers you’ll get to see.

Complete Guide to Alaska Cruises from Vancouver

Are you looking for a roundtrip itinerary or a one-way itinerary? Most roundtrip itineraries depart from either Seattle, Washington or Vancouver, British Columbia. While one-way cruises are usually Northbound routes from Vancouver or Southbound routes from Seward or Whittier, Alaska. Of course, travel expenses related to your departure port will also impact cruise budget. Think airfare and pre-cruise hotel stays.

Finally, you should consider the ports of call and glacier viewings. Popular ports of call include the southeastern Alaska ports of Juneau, Ketchikan, and Skagway. Some visit Icy Strait Point, Sitka, or Victoria, BC as well. Not all port visits are created equal though, as some may provide you more time to explore than others.

Further, not all cruise ships have the privilege to cruise through Glacier Bay National Park. Is this a must on your Alaska cruise? We think it should be! Hubbard Glacier is another “must-see” on many guests’ lists. So, familiarize yourself with the differences, so you pick the right one.

Finally, are you looking for a typical 7-day Alaska cruise or do you want something a bit longer? Would you consider booking a land and sea option which combines a cruise with an additional land tour?

Now that you’re better equipped to decide which of these Alaska Cruises 2024 is right for you, let’s dive into our picks.

Norwegian Jewel is sailing one-way itineraries from either Vancouver, B.C. or Seward, Alaska. Again, these itineraries include classic Alaskan ports of call like Juneau, Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, and Skagway. They also feature scenic cruising at the Hubbard Glacier.

Viking Orion

Offering a small ship, more all-inclusive experience in Alaska, Viking also features an ocean ship sailing in the region this season. Viking Orion is a 930-passenger, 47.8K vessel that boasts all veranda staterooms and an elegant yet simplistic Scandinavian design.

On a Viking Ocean cruise, you receive a free tour in each port of call, WiFi, no up-charges for specialty dining, and complimentary room service. Guests can also enjoy beer, wine, and soft drinks at meals, specialty coffees and bottled water, access to the thermal suite, and more without any nickel and diming.

Best Alaska Cruises

Of course, the ship also offers upscale dining that is all included in the cruise fare, bars and lounges with live music in the evenings, and enrichment opportunities to fill your time between ports of call. You can even warm up with afternoon tea in the Wintergarden after a long day ashore.

Viking Orion is sailing an 11-day Alaska and Inside Passage Cruise in 2024. This itinerary will sail from either Vancouver, British Columbia or Seward, Alaska. This itinerary visits Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Sitka, Icy Strait Point, and Valdez. It also includes scenic cruising of the Inside Passage and Yakutat Bay.

Best Alaska Cruises 2024 – Other

Crown Princess

Crown Princess is another one of Princess Cruises’ ships sailing Alaska in 2024. However, this ship offers a unique itinerary. This 113.5K gross ton ship, carrying just over 3,000 guests at double occupancy, is sailing an 11-day route roundtrip from San Francisco.

The itinerary features stops in Juneau, Skagway, Sitka (or Ketchikan), and Prince Rupert, BC along with scenic cruising in either Glacier Bay or Tracy Arm Fjord. There are also 5 sea days to enjoy all the ship has to offer.

As part of the Grand Class, Crown Princess features a similar layout and amenities to Ruby Princess to keep you entertained during your time on the ship.

Carnival Miracle

Carnival Miracle is another ship sailing to Alaska from San Francisco in 2024. As part of Carnival’s Spirit Class, this ship is 88.5K GT and carries just over 2,100 guests at double occupancy.

In June, July, and September of 2024, Carnival Miracle will sail a series of mostly 10-day cruises roundtrip from CA. Ports of call include Ketchikan, Haines, Juneau, Prince Rupert, and scenic cruising in Tracy Arm Fjord. On select itineraries, Ketchikan and/or Haines are swapped out for Skagway and/or Sitka.

Carnival Cruise Line Gets Ready for Busy Alaska Season

There are also four sea days to enjoy the ship’s amenities. Guests can grab some casual eats at Guy’s Burger Joint or BlueIguana Cantina, along with some drinks at the RedFrog Rum Bar or the Alchemy Bar. There’s plenty of time for entertainment and relaxation onboard too. Past guests will find familiar favorites like comedy shows in Punchliner, Playlist Productions in the theater, a Cloud9 Spa, the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat if the weather allows, and Camp Ocean for the little ones.

Oceania Regatta

For another unique Alaska cruise in 2024, Oceania Regatta is sailing from Los Angeles, Seward, Vancouver, and Seattle on a variety of itineraries throughout the season. This upscale, small cruise ship is just over 30K gross tons. And it has a capacity of only 670 guests at double occupancy.

Despite its size, Oceania Cruises’ Regatta still features four open-seating restaurants, a spa, eight lounges and bars, and a casino. And nearly 70% of the staterooms feature private verandas – perfect for viewing Alaska’s stunning landscapes. The ship’s intimate size allows for visits to ports where larger ships can’t dock. It also allows for more immersive experiences in port, connecting to the local people, culture, and cuisine.

Oceania Cruises Announces 2025 Summer Voyages

While each itinerary varies, popular port stops in Alaska include Icy Strait Point, Sitka, Juneau, Ketchikan, Haines, Skagway, Klawock, Wrangell, and the Hubbard Glacier. Additional ports of call may include San Francisco; Astoria, Oregon; Prince Rupert, BC; or Victoria, BC. Most range in length from 7 to 12 days, with one 19-day itinerary.

Additional Alaska Experiences

Of course, these are just our picks for the best Alaska cruises for 2024. There are plenty of other sailings in the region that may appeal to different types of travelers. While we have never sailed with any of these brands, Regent, Silversea, and Seabourn do offer luxury and ultra-luxury experiences in the region.

If you aren’t really “a cruiser”, a cruise is still one of the best ways to visit Alaska. So, there are sailings out there for you too. Lindblad Expeditions, UnCruise Adventures, Alaskan Dream Cruises, and HX (Hurtigruten Expeditions), to name a few, provide a more off-the-beaten-path experience.

Experiencing the Last Frontier on an Alaska Expedition Cruise

These expedition ships carry much fewer passengers and are a more active way of exploring. The accommodations will likely be less luxurious, and there will be far fewer amenities onboard. But, you will venture to more remote locales for a very different Alaska cruise experience than the mainstream cruise lines.

Whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed. There is so much natural beauty, rugged landscapes, and wildlife waiting for you in Alaska.

Windstar Cruises has announced plans to expand its fleet with the addition of two all-suite motor yachts, Star Seeker and Star Explorer. The first of the two, Star Seeker, is currently being constructed in the WestSEA shipyard. It’s expected to be delivered in December 2025, followed by Star Explorer in December 2026.

“Our goal was to ensure these ships are unmistakably Windstar, and a significant amount of effort has gone into achieving this,” said Windstar Cruises’ President Christopher Prelog. “We are thrilled for this expansion, building on the success of our game-changing Star Class in small-ship cruising with guests and travel partners, while offering new experiences. This growth reflects the dedication of our incredible crew and team, allowing us to broaden our destination portfolio and even bring one of our Wind Class sail ships back to Tahiti.”

Windstar Cruises’ New Motor Yachts

Each vessel will have 112 suites with full private balconies and infinity windows. Two new Owner’s Suites will be at the aft of the ship, featuring wrap-around balconies. With a capacity for 224 guests and a staff to guest radio of 1:2, the ships will maintain an intimate atmosphere with personalized service.

Guests will also enjoy access to several newly-added favorites, including Windstar’s iconic Watersports Platform with all-new staircase access and the cozy Yacht Club café and lounge. The vessels will also feature a two-story spa and fitness facility, a whirlpool on the bow, and a spacious open top deck.

As the official cruise line of the James Beard Foundation, Windstar’s commitment to exceptional cuisine will continue to be a priority for the guest experience. The reimagined main dining room, Amphora, will serve a variety of inventive dishes, including rotating items from James Beard Foundation-affiliated guest chefs. Al fresco dining will now be available at both Amphora and the Star Grill. A no-charge specialty restaurant and 24-hour room service will round out the four dining options.

Star Seeker and Star Explorer will both have ice-strengthened hulls, unlocking access to new destinations. They’re equipped with the latest technology in safety, propulsion, and navigation, including pump jet thrusters and forward-facing sonar. To minimize their environmental footprint and uphold the brand’s commitment to sustainability, the ships have tier III Nox rated Rolls Royce engines and can connect to shore power which minimizes port emissions.

The ships will also have advanced wastewater treatment systems that meet all global standards. Every aspect of their design reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to preserving the environment while providing unforgettable experiences to travelers.

Windstar Cruises’ fleet expansion will allow it to bring one of its Wind class ships, Wind Star, back to Tahiti, where it will join Star Breeze in 2027. With more than 36 years of experience operating cruises in French Polynesia, travelers will now have a choice between sailing among the islands on a Wind or Star class ship.

Full itineraries and booking details for Star Seeker will be announced in late June 2024.

Star Breeze takes over French Polynesia Sailings as Windstar Cruises’ New, Year-Round Ship in the Region

Windstar elevates cultural immersion with new Tahitian ambassador, musicians, events, and shore excursions

Windstar Cruises‘ Star Breeze takes over French Polynesia sailings. As the leader in small ship cruising in Tahiti, Windstar has introduced the all-suite, 312-guest Star Breeze. This vessel replaces Wind Spirit as the new year-round ship in Tahiti and French Polynesia.

Star Breeze began cruising in Tahiti on February 4th, following a memorable ceremony attended by over 500 guests including esteemed dignitaries such as Moetai Brotherson, President of French Polynesia; Tony Geros, Speaker of the House; Manouche Lehartel, Deputy Mayor of Papeete; Air Tahiti Nui and Tahiti Tourism partners; port officials; travel advisors; media; and Windstar executives.

The event marked a significant milestone in Windstar’s commitment to providing unparalleled small ship experiences in Tahiti. In celebration, local artist Jessie Tiare Manutahi is on board to reveal an artistic Tahitian-inspired logo made up of symbols representing Windstar in Tahiti.

“This strategic shift in ships not only doubles capacity but also brings new experiences given the Breeze’s multiple dining options, enlarged spa and fitness center, and spacious accommodations,” explained Windstar Cruises’ President Christopher Prelog at the pier side celebration. “Travelers aboard Star Breeze still navigate Tahiti’s out-of-the-way harbors, hidden lagoons, and pristine beaches in Windstar’s signature, small ship style.”

The vessel shift means faster travel to and from the islands of French Polynesia and the greater South Pacific. This allows expansion to the remote Marquesas Islands with the brand-new, 14-day Tahitian Treasures & Magnificent Marquesas in July 2024.

The 148-guest Wind Spirit leaves Tahiti to sail in the Caribbean during the winter season. The ship will then sail the Mediterranean and Greek Isles between May and November. Wind Spirit strategically joins sister-ship Wind Star in the Greek Isles to double occupancy in this top selling region.

Star Breeze in Tahiti

Windstar’s Star Breeze visits 11 islands and atolls in French Polynesia beginning in 2024. Enriching cultural onboard experiences and new elements include:

 • An evening of “arearea” French Polenesian fun! Join local group the Mamas and the Papas on deck to learn how to make a lei, tie a pareo, and enjoy Tahitian music and dancing.
 • Hiring local team members in the service department
 • There’s a French Polynesian cultural ambassador on each cruise. The ambassador organizes events such as Tahitian dance and language lessons, crafts, Ukulele performance, and more.
 • New shore excursions available. Sail on a cultural catamaran cruise in Raiatea, explore coral nurseries with Coral Gardeners, and refresh your PADI certification in Papeete prior to the cruise.
 • Local artwork decorating the ship; Tahitian media including movies, music channels, books, and board games
 • Turndown gifts made in the islands
Windstar Cruises' Star Breeze Takes Over French Polynesia Sailings

Windstar will continue to offer key Tahiti favorites including the signature Bora Bora Destination Discovery Event on a private Tahitian motu where guests enjoy an al fresco dinner with traditional foods, live music, and local fire dancers light up the night.

Tahiti tattooist, cultural expert, and guide Tihoti brings local culture and traditions alive on board in a not-to-miss presentation. Another favorite of Windstar guests – swimming directly off Windstar’s Watersports Platform. The South Pacific becomes the swimming pool and playground with complimentary paddle boards, kayaks, floating mats, and snorkel gear.

More Tahitian Experiences Ashore

As part of its partnership with Coral Gardeners, two new shore excursions take guests to the headquarters to meet the team, visit coral nurseries, and learn about the importance of protecting the corals in a hands-on and interactive way. To date, Windstar, along with its guests, have adopted over 2,500 corals with Coral Gardeners. But Windstar’s goal is to open a dedicated nursery supporting 5,000 corals in 2025.

Windstar’s longtime partnerships with island communities, Air Tahiti Nui and Tahiti Tourism continue to evolve with new ideas and offerings such as extended hotel stays for an enhanced Tahiti experience combining the cruise with hotels and activities on land. Air and hotel packages are offered from Seattle and Los Angeles and a new foodie cruise tour combines the seven-day Dreams of Tahiti cruise with a three-night stay at Moorea’s Hotel Manava Beach Resort and Spa, a foodie adventure and snorkeling tour.

Prelog tells all who ask that Tahiti is his favorite destination. “We have dialed in our itineraries and curated cultural experiences on and off the ship,” says Prelog. “We can’t wait to share it with more travelers.”

Windstar’s First-Ever Winter Sailings in the Mediterranean Exceed Expectations; Small Ship Line to Position Ships in the Mediterranean Year-Round

After pivoting to a first-ever winter cruise season in the Mediterranean this year, Windstar Cruises has announced its intent to position ships in the Mediterranean year-round. The cruise line will keep Star Legend in the region for another winter season. Positive feedback and an influx of bookings and demand have led the luxury small ship cruise line to enhance their winter Mediterranean deployment with new itineraries and opportunities to book longer voyages in 2024/2025.

“On our inaugural sailing in December, every single travel advisor and guest on board told me ‘this is genius’ as we enjoyed the sunny weather of Europe’s most walkable cities when few cruise lines sail Europe’s oceans,” explains Windstar’s Chief Commercial Officer Janet Bava.

“Our biggest learning from this winter’s season was we were limited by the possibilities and experiences we could offer with just the one itinerary – from Rome to Barcelona and the reverse and we have responded to that with a variety of new itineraries for our guests to enjoy the Mediterranean’s most storied destinations in the winter.”

Windstar Cruises to Position Ships in the Mediterranean Year-Round

Windstar will now offer five itineraries in the Mediterranean for the 2025 season, plus three special holiday and event sailings. The expansion also allows guests to combine back-to-back itineraries, providing a unique opportunity to experience different destinations while unpacking just once.

New Itinerary Highlights for 2024/2025

 • Winter Italy & the Dalmatian Coast will set sail on five dates in 24/25. The 8-day itinerary sails from Rome to Venice, with stops in Naples, Taormina (Sicily), an overnight in Dubrovnik (Croatia), a full day in Zadar (Croatia), and ends with an overnight in Venice. The route and timing, particularly the beginning of January, will take advantage of Italy’s strict rules surrounding retail sales (with just winter and summer sales allowed and items up to 70 percent off).
 • Europe Winter Riviera will have eight departure dates on a 7-day cruise. From Rome, guests will sail to Livorno (Italy) for an overnight stay, followed by a day in Genoa and then Nice, France before ending with an overnight in Barcelona.
 • Winter in Italy and the Adriatican 8-day cruise, will take place on just one sail date. Leaving from Athens, the yacht will sail through the tiny Corinth Canal to Itea (Delphi) before overnighting in Corfu. Then it’s off to Crotone (Italy) followed by an overnight in Taormina (Sicily) before a day in Naples, ending the journey in Rome.
 • Southern Spain Winter Escapes will be a 9-day roundtrip sailing from Barcelona offered on four departure dates. Starting with an overnight in Barcelona means plenty of time to explore the city center before sailing to Valencia, Cartagena, Malaga (for an overnight), Gibraltar (U.K.), Palma, and then returning to Barcelona. Guests will easily be able to hop on the high speed train to/from Madrid in order to extend their explorations inland either pre- or post-cruise.
 • Winter in Croatia & Greece departs March 26, 2025 for an 8-day sailing from Venice to Athens. An overnight in Venice lets guests explore the historic city from the ship’s convenient city dock location. Port calls include Koper, Slovenia; Zadar and Dubrovnik, Croatia; Kotor, Montenegro; Delphi, Greece and a transit of the scenic, narrow Corinth Canal.

Special Holiday and Event Sailings

 • Christmas holiday cruise will sail from Rome to Barcelona, December 23-30, 2024. It includes an overnight in Livorno for the opportunity to attend Christmas Eve mass at the Duomo followed by stops in Genoa and Nice before ending in Barcelona with an overnight stay. Festive decorations, traditional dishes and activities bring the holiday spirit on board the ship.
 • A New Year’s cruise sails roundtrip from Barcelona, December 30, 2024-January 8, 2025. New Year’s Eve itself is an overnight in Palma, Mallorca – one of Europe’s ultimate party meccas for an epic celebration. Then it’s onto Cartagena, an overnight in Malaga, followed by stops in Gibraltar (U.K.), Valencia, and returning to Barcelona.
 • Additionally, Star Legend will return for a special appearance at the International Luxury Travel Market Cannes travel expo, which takes place in December 2024. The ship will sail from Rome to Barcelona, November 30-December 7, 2024. It includes stops in Livorno, Genoa, Cannes (overnight) and Barcelona (also an overnight). Ship visits will be available in Cannes for conference attendees.

Multi-Million Dollar Initiative Begins for Windstar Cruises’ Three Iconic Wind Class Sailing Ships

Wind Class Refresh takes inspiration from the sails, the sea, and a desire to foster connections

Windstar Cruises‘ sailing yachts will undergo a multi-million dollar refresh. Afficionados of Windstar Cruises’ original three classic sailing yachts – 148-guest Wind Star and Wind Spirit and 342-guest Wind Surf – will be happy to learn the award-winning small ship cruise line is embarking on an initiative to redesign and update all three yachts.

The multi-year initiative kicks off today, with Wind Star completing phase one of her renovations.

“Our sailing ships are beloved by Windstar guests,” says Windstar’s President Christopher Prelog. “Being on the ship under sail is unforgettable and brings an element of freedom and romance to every voyage.”

Windstar Cruises Sailing Yachts to Undergo Multi-Million Dollar Refresh

Wind Star is the first sailing ship to start the process and is currently in Lisbon, readying to welcome guests onboard. A second phase will include remaining staterooms and dining venues in 2026.

Wind Spirit will undergo a full remodel and complete her renovations in 2025. Wind Surf will be in two phases – 2024 and 2026. The project encompasses a full redesign of all public spaces with new layouts, furniture, wall and floor coverings, lighting, and custom art. Guest staterooms, Premium Suites, and Owner’s Suites will receive full refurbishments including new furniture, interactive televisions, and décor.

“This multi-year, multi- million-dollar initiative is all about providing guests with updated spaces that inspire relaxation, foster connection, and offer multifunctional needs of an intimate sized sailing yacht,” says Stijn Creupelandt, Windstar’s vice president of hotel operations and product development. “Spending time on our yachts is all about moments of connection, whether that be guest to guest or guest to crew, and we want to make sure our spaces reflect that desire.”

Project Highlights for Wind Star

Lobby – Opening up the space creates a more expansive reception area with added seating and expanded retail space.

Lounge – A redesign of the layout will foster connections between people with a living room-like ambiance. New furniture, lighting, and finishes enhance the area for daytime relaxation and evening entertainment.

Spa and Fitness Center – The World Spa by Windstar and gym have been thoughtfully designed with wellness and respite in mind. Both areas have all new finishes, color palettes, and new state-of-the-art equipment.

Pool Deck – A focal point on every voyage, a pool deck expansion adds in a new pool and jacuzzi and extends the pool bar. New furniture includes sofas for lounging and colorful poufs, ottomans, and chairs around the pool. Additionally, new speakers, lighting, and finishes add to the fun of parties on the pool deck. New fauna and greenery around the pool bar add a pop of color as well.

Artwork – In partnership with Fountainhead Arts in Miami, the line is sourcing a collection of artwork for all three yachts. All are specially commissioned for Windstar with a common theme around the convergence of nature, organic materials, and the essence of yachting.

Technology – New, larger televisions in every cabin will feature curated content and movies, and the line’s Wayfinder application. Additional WiFi access points will provide a better connection to Starlink internet.

Updates planned for guest staterooms, the main dining room Amphora, and lunch/breakfast restaurant Veranda will occur in phase 2.

Windstar Cruises Expands Global Footprint to South America with Tours to Galapagos and Machu Picchu

Windstar Cruises expands its global reach with first-time cruises in South America beginning in December 2025 on board all-suite yacht Star Pride. The diversification to the region creates new opportunities for the small ship cruise line’s well-traveled guests to experience bucket-list destinations, like Machu Picchu in Peru and Galapagos Islands in Ecuador.

The new 16-day Marvels of Latin America Cruise Tour sailing from Colón, Panama to Lima, Peru (or reverse) adds a pre- or post-cruise tour to Machu Picchu. And there’s an option for a mid-cruise overland tour to the Galapagos Islands. For a shorter version, an 11-day Marvels of Ecuador, Peru, and the Panama Canal includes the cruise and the optional Galapagos Island overland tour.

Windstar Expands in South America with Tours to Galapagos and Machu Picchu

“Our new cruise tour in Machu Picchu and overland tour to Galapagos allow our guests to see more of South America,” explains Windstar Cruises President Christopher Prelog. “I’m excited to offer our loyal guests new destinations to visit with Windstar. We’re taking care of the complicated logistics to get you to all these spectacular places.”

Starting with the New Year’s sailing on December 27, 2025, the itinerary includes a daylight transit of the iconic Panama Canal and is also filled with overnight stays allowing ample time for multi-day exploration in Manta, Guayaquil, and Lima. Additional port visits include Machala (where more locals go on vacation than tourists) and Trujillo, where guests can visit the nearby pre-Colombian Chimu tribe archaeological site of Chan Chan.

Machu Picchu Tour

The Machu Picchu tour is offered as a pre- or post-cruise excursion over five days. Highlights include driving to the Sacred Valley while visiting and dining at local farms and riding the legendary Vistadome train through the Andean landscape to and from Machu Picchu, where a private guide takes guests through the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Guests can explore the Urubamba market and a local ceramic workshop on an extensive overview of Cusco and amble Lima’s bustling streets with a knowledgeable local.

Overnight stays during the tour are in luxury, boutique hotels. Included meals focus on local ingredients and flavors for which Peru is best known.

Galapagos Tour

The mid-cruise Ecuadorian excursion to the Galapagos takes place over three days, beginning in either Manta or Guayaquil depending on the date/direction of the sailing. After flying from Gauyaquil to the Galapagos, guests take a ferry to the Santa Cruz Highlands to see Giant Tortoises in their natural habitat and visit the Charles Darwin Research Station.

The next day guests embark on a small ferry for a navigable tour to one of the Galapagos’ uninhabited islands: North Seymour Island, Bartolome Island, South Plaza Island, Santa Fe Island, or Floreana Island.

On the final day, guests board a short flight and transfer to return to their Windstar yacht in Guayaquil (or in Manta, depending on the date and itinerary direction).

Prelog emphasized the unique opportunity to visit three must-see places – Panama Canal, Machu Picchu, Galapagos – within one 16-day trip. “It’s an incredible value and makes good use of travel time by combining these locations into one cruise tour,” said Prelog.

Windstar has made significant increases in the number of cruise tours on offer in every region the small ship line sails, including these first-time offerings in South America. The move is in response to customers’ demands to spend more time soaking in the sights and spirit of each destination.

“These tours take care of every detail while also getting you closer to the wildlife, culture, and history of the region in a way that’s respectful of the land and the locals,” Prelog says. “Since we begin or end in Panama versus Florida where traditionally these itineraries depart from, we have fewer sea days and more port calls in South America for a rich destination experience.”
