Like many mega-ships, Disney Fantasy offers cruisers several stateroom options. While most Disney Cruise Line cabins offer a unique design, there are several factors to consider when choosing a stateroom with cost ranking at the top of the list. Unfortunately, one drawback of Disney Cruise Line is the price tag as cruises can be up to twice as expensive for comparable staterooms and itineraries. Still, after spending seven nights onboard Disney Fantasy, we are glad we opted for a Deluxe Family Oceanview stateroom with verandah for this trip. Find out why you should consider upgrading in our latest cabin tour and review.

Our Disney Fantasy Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah Review

Our weeklong Disney Fantasy cruise included two stops at DCL’s new private destination of Lookout Cay. When booking this cruise over a year in advance, we went ahead and selected the cheapest balcony stateroom available. And even that was considerably more expensive given it was the ship’s inaugural visit to Lookout Cay.

During our booking process, the Disney website was experiencing some issues. So, it took a few minutes to confirm we were Bibbidi, Bobbidi, booked in a Deluxe Family Oceanview stateroom with a verandah.

We ended up in cabin 5036. This category 04E stateroom was all the way forward on Deck 5, portside.

Disney Fantasy has three banks of elevators, and this room was forward from the forward elevators. Though, it was never a far walk to the atrium or the entertainment venues nestled on Decks 3 through 5.

Likewise, to get to the outdoor decks was a short elevator ride up. Regardless of the time of day, there was never an issue getting a lift up or down. This was surprising, given the ship was sailing at double occupancy.

Layout

According to the Disney Cruise Line website, our Disney Fantasy stateroom was 299 square feet, including the balcony. However, what we didn’t realize at the time of booking was that our cabin had an extended balcony that was twice the size of the ship’s standard balcony.

Immediately upon entering the room, the split bathrooms were to the left, with the closet and small dry bar type setup to our right. Passing the bathroom and closet, our queen bed was on the midship wall facing forward. Beyond the bed was the seating area containing a sleeper sofa and an oversized desk with additional storage.

Beyond the sitting area was our extra-large balcony, which included two loungers, two upright chairs, and a table. When compared to other balcony staterooms on contemporary cruise lines, this deluxe stateroom was certainly more spacious.

It offered more than enough storage space even for over-packers like ourselves. Further, there was more room between the bed and the accompanying sitting area, as well as more room to walk between the bed and the opposite wall.

Honestly, this room felt more like a hotel room than a cruise ship cabin.

Bathroom

Perhaps the most unique aspect of Disney Cruise cabins is the split bathroom setup.

Like most of the accommodations on the ship, our stateroom had two separate bathrooms. Immediately near the entrance of the cabin was a washroom with a sink and toilet. This bathroom was also equipped with liquid hand soap, which is often missing in cruise cabins.

The second bathroom had the tub/shower combo and an additional sink. Both had two shelves for storing toiletries and a decent sized vanity.

Another added benefit is the inclusion of Disney’s premium bath products, the same that guests can find in the Disney World resorts.

While we appreciated the extra space, we were surprised at the size of the shower. Cruise ship shower stalls are often tight quarters. This one was a full bathtub, so it was plenty wide and long. However, the height was questionable. At just under 6 feet tall, I almost hit the ceiling. So, I have no idea how anyone a few inches taller would have been able to comfortably shower.

Disney Fantasy Family Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah

Nonetheless, the split bathroom is a huge bonus, especially for families.

Closet

This cabin had two identical closets. So, we essentially had his and her storage space, which meant all of our clothes could be unpacked and hung up with no issues. These closets included three lower shelves which we used mainly for shoes as well as a clothes bar and full-length shelf above. One of these closets also housed the safe and life jackets.

Next to the closet was a separate storage space, which included additional drawers and shelves. The shelves became storage for things like our popcorn bucket and Yeti water bottles. The drawers here were just the right size for our packing cubes filled with bathing suits and under garments.

Main Cabin

The queen-sized bed was located right next to the bathroom. With long days ashore, we had no issues falling asleep on the Frette® 300-thread-count, 100% cotton linens each night.

Unlike other cruise lines, Disney Fantasy boasts true queen beds, not two twin beds. So, cruisers cannot set these beds up as two singles. Luckily though, Disney does have plenty of accommodations with sleeper sofas and pull-down beds for larger families.

Disney Fantasy Family Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah

There were two nightstands, one on each side of the bed, with one small drawer. Above each nightstand was one 220 and one 110 outlet, but no USB outlets for easy charging of phones or watches at night.

Recently, many cruise lines have transitioned to more simplistic desk setups. However, Disney Fantasy still had a large desk and shelving combination unit with plenty of storage. On the desk, there were two 220-volt outlets, two 110 outlets, and two USB outlets. While we would have liked some USB-C connections, we were able to charge all our devices using our cruise-approved power adapter.

To the right side of the desk was the mini-fridge, and to the left were three oversized drawers and an additonal storage cabinet above.

The 22-inch LCD television was mounted to the corner of the desk above the mini-fridge. With the swivel stand, the television could be positioned toward the bed or the sofa, depending on who wanted to watch the programming. The sofa was large enough to accommodate a few people at one time as well.

Additionally, above the television were two open shelves. Here, I routinely left our Key to the World cards and our small electronic devices for quick access.

Balcony

Given the location of our stateroom, we were treated to an extended balcony. This meant we had almost twice as much outdoor space as a traditional balcony. Thus, we had both chairs and loungers, along with a table.

Given the itinerary, and gloomy weather towards the end of the trip, we didn’t use the balcony as much as we had hoped. Though, we did enjoy views of the ports of call and some scenic sailing a few mornings.

But, if there is the chance to get an extended balcony without much additional cost, we suggest you make the investment. This is especially useful if there are a lot of sea days during your voyage.

Recap of Our Disney Fantasy Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom Review

If the name of the stateroom category hasn’t already given it away, this balcony cabin is designed for families. While there were only two of us, we can easily see how a family of four would have no issues comfortably spending a week in this stateroom.

There were more than enough drawers and closet space to easily pack away clothes. And the split bathroom setup makes it easy for multiple family members to get ready at once.

With more space, it also means navigating around the bed and the nearby sitting area is easier.

We didn’t necessarily need the additional living space and storage areas. But, we were glad to have it as we were extending our trip at Walt Disney World so had more than we would normally pack for a 7-day cruise.

While Disney Cruise Line charges considerably more, the staterooms do offer more amenities and space than similar cabins on competitor cruise lines. This Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom was more like a junior suite or mini-suite on other cruise lines.

Admittedly, we did pay a premium for this sailing given it was the first revenue cruise to Lookout Cay. However, for our upcoming weeklong Western Caribbean cruise on Disney Treasure, we were able to secure a guaranteed balcony cabin for almost half the price of this Disney Fantasy cruise.

Of course, Disney Cruise Line offers a variety of other cabin options from inside rooms all the way up to luxurious suites. So, you can pick your accommodations based on your budget. For us, a balcony cabin is always our preference as it offers the perfect combination of size, amenities, and value.

Cabin selection is an important part of cruise planning. For those cruising on a new ship for the first time or first-time cruisers altogether, selecting a cabin can be difficult.

If you are planning a trip on Disney Cruise Line, we have you covered as we recently sailed on Disney Dream in an inside stateroom. For those comparing stateroom options on this ship, we have our Disney Dream Deluxe Inside Cabin Review to help you decide if this category is right for your family.

Disney Dream Deluxe Inside Cabin Review

Having previously sailed on three of the five Disney Cruise Line ships in Verandah Staterooms, I hesitated to book an inside stateroom for our most recent Disney Dream sailing. Did I make a mistake?

As a bit of background information, Disney Cruise Line offers four main stateroom types: Concierge, Verandah, Oceanview, and Inside.

Disney Dream Cabin Review

Our Disney Dream Deluxe Inside Stateroom was on Deck 9, cabin 9079, midship on the portside. Our stateroom was conveniently located around the corner from the midship elevators. Further, with the pool deck, buffet, and beverage stations on Deck 11, it was a quick walk up the stairs for anything we needed. Except for embarkation day, we never waited more than a minute for an elevator.

Disney Cruise Line’s website has the room size for this stateroom listed as 204 square feet, which is much larger than comparable interior staterooms on other cruise lines. Royal Caribbean’s inside cabins hover around 175 square feet, while Carnival Cruise Line’s are 158 square feet.

Layout of Our Disney Dream Deluxe Inside Stateroom

Our Disney Dream cabin layout was comparable to other inside staterooms we had sailed in on other cruise lines, with a few added touches. The decor resembles the four classic Disney Cruise Line ship staterooms, with nautical theming featuring dark blues and a wood-boarded accent wall. We were pleasantly surprised with the amount of space we had at first look.

When entering the cabin, the bathroom is immediately to the right, while the closets are to the immediate left. Moving forward, a desk area is on the left of the cabin, with the sofa on the right past the bathroom.

Disney Dream Cabin Review

Further ahead is a full-length curtain that can separate the “living” area from the bed area if desired, with the bed behind it against the far wall. Two lamps were on either side of the bed, and a shelf underneath simulated a nightstand with charging outlets on both sides.

Immediately inside the stateroom door is a slot for your Key to the World card to be placed in to activate the lights throughout your cabin. Any similar type of card will do; we chose to keep an empty gift card in the holder, sliding it in and out when needed instead of pulling out our Key to the World card each time.

Magical Extras

A great touch to the Disney Cruise Line inside staterooms is the magical porthole on the wall. The first four Disney Cruise Line ships have this feature, while the Disney Wish inside staterooms do not. The magical porthole is an LED screen “window” featuring real-time views from outside the ship similar to what cruisers would see if they booked an Oceanview stateroom.

Disney Dream Cabin Review

Favorite Disney characters even pop up on the porthole from time to time! We saw characters like Mr. Potato Head, Donald Duck, and Tinker Bell throughout our four-night cruise.

Inside Our Disney Dream Interior Cabin

Bathroom

Disney Cruise Line features a split bathroom setup in most of its staterooms. Standard Inside staterooms do not have this feature, while Deluxe Inside Staterooms do feature split bathrooms as well as all higher cabin categories.

Opening the door closest to the entrance, you’ll find the toilet, a full-sized sink, and a mirror. One step further into the room, the second bathroom is home to the tub/shower combination, as well as a second sink, mirror, and a set of small shelves.

A big perk of Disney Cruise Line is that each stateroom has a tub and shower. This is especially beneficial for families with small children, as it offers more shower space than some older cruise cabins with just a curtained shower.

Within the shower, there are two retractable clotheslines to hang wet items. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are also provided. Though still a small space, my six-foot-tall husband had no issues with the shower throughout our sailing.

The sink vanities are small, but having two counter space areas to hold our toiletries made it less crowded. Two bathroom areas are always helpful, in our experience, but being in an inside cabin this sailing only amplified our opinion! With a minimal amount of space to begin with, it was nice not to have to use the desk mirror to get ready if someone was using the bathroom space.

Closet

Immediately to the left of the stateroom hallway are the closets. The first closet housed a small safe with a small shelf resembling a shoe shelf underneath. Both closets offered a full-length hanging clothes bar with enough hangers for our formal clothes and dresses. While the clothes bar did go across the entire length of the closets, the space above the safe only left enough room to hang items much shorter, such as shirts.

However, the lack of storage drawers was a setback, especially with a toddler who had little to no hanging clothes. For our four-night sailing, we made it work, but I can imagine that storage on a seven-night cruise would have been tricky.

Main Cabin Area

In the main cabin area, the desk area was on the left, while the sitting area was on the right. The sofa was comfortable enough to relax and transformed into a single bed at night. A small coffee table was situated in front of the couch but could easily be moved anywhere within the cabin if extra space was needed.

The desk offered two 220V plugs, two 110V plugs, and four USB plugs. A full mirror and an elevated shelf are situated above the assorted plugs. Aclosed-door cabinet is on the upper left, with the television and two open shelves on the right.

The mini-fridge is within the bottom right door of the desk, while the bottom left has three drawers for storage. A sitting chair rounded out the desk area features, though we never once sat in it. The counter space on the desk was large enough that we didn’t feel cluttered.

The queen bed was located on the aft wall, facing forward. Small shelves are on either side of the bed, but only one side had outlets, one 110V and one 220V. The other side of the bed housed the stateroom phone and the magical porthole on/off switch. There were no USB outlets near the bed for charging phones at night.

We had nothing but great things to say about our Disney Dream Inside Stateroom bed. It was comfortable enough that we woke up saying it was the best we had slept in weeks! Maybe the endless amount of activities onboard and one too many poolside ice cream cones had something to do with the good sleep, but we’ll give the bed the credit!

Recap of Our Disney Dream Deluxe Inside Cabin Review

Except for the lack of drawer space, we had nothing but positive thoughts about our Disney Dream Deluxe Inside Stateroom. Having sailed multiple previous Disney Cruise Line sailings only in Family Verandah rooms, including on the new Disney Wish, there was skepticism about booking this inside stateroom.

Disney Dream Stateroom Review

Though this ship is over ten years old, the stateroom was extremely clean, spacious enough for our needs, and up to date. Depending on how many adults or electronics you may have, one could argue that there was a lack of charging areas, but we never had an issue.

Would four adults be comfortable enough for a seven-night sailing in this room? Probably not. I would recommend this deluxe inside stateroom to couples or families with small children.

With the significant cost savings between inside staterooms and verandah staterooms, for a short sailing like ours, I would have a hard time justifying the extra expense for a verandah on our next trip.

For cruisers content walking up to an outer deck to see the ocean, a Disney Dream Deluxe Inside Cabin provides excellent value and a decent amount of space to satisfy guests throughout their sailings.

We recently sailed on Viking Radgrid, one of Viking’s many river cruise ships. This Viking Seine River cruise was our first river cruise, so we weren’t quite sure what to expect. We stayed in a balcony room, which is our usual cabin preference on ocean ships. But, how did these river cruise accommodations compare? Well, we break down all the details with our Viking River Cruise Veranda Stateroom review.

Our Viking River Cruise Veranda Stateroom Review

When comparing ocean ships to river ships, there are much fewer cabin options. In fact, there are only 84 staterooms in total on Viking Radgrid. The options include 22 Standard Staterooms, 18 French Balcony Staterooms, 35 Veranda Staterooms, 7 Veranda Suites, and 2 Explorer Suites.

Viking River Cruise Tips

The Veranda Staterooms are broken down into Veranda A and Veranda B cabins based on location. For our sailing, we were assigned to cabin 219. This Veranda B stateroom is located on the starboard side of the Middle Deck, or deck 2 of this four-deck vessel.

Give the size of river ships, it was never a far walk anywhere. The Restaurant was on our deck and The Lounge and Aquavit Terrace were one deck above. Thus, there’s really not much difference among any of the veranda cabins.

Inside a Viking River Cruise Veranda Stateroom

Layout

This Viking River Cruise Veranda Stateroom is 205 square feet and includes a personal balcony.

Immediately upon entering the room, the bathroom was to the right and the closet was to the left. Continuing past the bathroom and closet, the long dresser/vanity area was to the left and the bed was to the right. The bed in our Viking veranda stateroom was on the aft wall facing forward.

Our Viking River Cruise Veranda Stateroom Review

Between the bed and the balcony, there was a small shelf-like desk which doubled as a nightstand along with an upright chair. The television was on the wall opposite from the bed above the dresser, and there was a small nightstand on the other side of the bed as well.

Finally, there is the balcony, which felt small when compared to balconies on ocean ships. The balcony was fairly long and narrow and had just enough room for two upright chairs and a small table.

Overall, the cabin was a bit cozier than we expected, but we were glad to have a full balcony.

The finishes and décor of the cabin were very on brand for Viking. They looked very similar to the cabins we stayed in during our Viking Ocean and Viking Expedition cruises in the past, except smaller.

Bathroom

The bathroom in this Viking Veranda Stateroom was a little small even by cruise ship bathroom standards. Yet, it still featured all the necessities and even some upgrades like heated floors.

Opening the bathroom door, the stand-up shower was to our left, the toilet immediately in front, and the sink/vanity area to the right. There are a few shelves for storage and adequate counterspace.

The shower was a rectangular set-up with a glass door. This innovative glass door is hinged in both directions, making it easier to get in and out. Further, all Viking ships provide premium Freyja bath products.

Closet

Across from the bathroom are the closets. The closet size seemed on par with other cruise lines. One side featured a full length clothes bar with hangers. The other side featured shelves along with the safe.

Given the weather was cooler during our sailing and we had packed several layers, we were thankful for the addtional dresser drawers. It would have been very difficult to fit all our clothes along with jackets otherwise.

Our Viking River Cruise Veranda Stateroom Review

Main Cabin

While the dresser/vanity area was very generously-sized, we did miss the traditional seating area with sofa found on most ocean ships in this Viking Veranda Stateroom.

The dresser portion housed the mini-fridge and six additional drawers for storage. The vanity area had a small stool and plenty of counterspace. Even though there was no shelving here, the area was plenty big for getting ready and storing many of our toiletries.

This area is where you will find the glass bottles of provided water, the ice bucket, and the QuietVox device charging station as well.

You will also find 1 US and 1 European power outlet near the vanity and 2 USB outlets and 1 additonal power outlet above the dresser portion.

In terms of the seating area, it was basically just one upright chair and a larger nightstand/desk. This became our charging station for laptops and cameras during the cruise. There is 1 US, 1 European, and 2 USB outlets near each nightstand.

Our Viking River Cruise Veranda Stateroom Review

The queen-sized Viking Explorer bed provided adequate comfort during our trip. We had no issues falling asleep after our long days ashore exploring new and exciting ports of call.

Balcony

Lastly, there is the balcony which always provides a great spot for taking in the scenery. Given that the weather during our trip was rather cool and rainy, we unfortunately did not get to use this balcony much. Though, it was nice to watch some of the scenic sailing.

It’s important to note that river cruises are known for tieing up next to each other while in port. So, you might not always have a view while docked even if you have a balcony. On our sailing, we were lucky that whenever this double docking occurred it was always on the other side of the vessel.

Our Viking River Cruise Veranda Stateroom Review

Viking River Cruise Veranda Stateroom Inclusions

Across the fleet, all Viking River Cruise Veranda Staterooms come standard with certain amenities. These include:

 • Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door opening to veranda with river views
 • 12 PM Embarkation
 • Queen-sized Viking Explorer Bed
 • Free Wi-Fi
 • Television with live TV channels, complimentary movies, and in-house programming
 • 110/220 volt outlets and USB ports
 • Bathroom with glass-enclosed shower, heated floor, anti-fog mirror, and hair dryer
 • Premium Freyja toiletries
 • Plush robes and slippers (upon request)
 • Telephone, safe, refrigerator
 • Individual climate control
 • Bottled water replenished daily
 • Twice-daily housekeeping
 • Under-bed suitcase storage space
 • Wardrobe with wooden hangers

Recap of Our Viking River Cruise Veranda Stateroom Review

Our Viking River Cruise Veranda Stateroom offered all of the amenities you would expect to find in a standard cruise ship cabin. However, when compared to Viking Ocean and Expedition ships, the staterooms are smaller. To be fair, we’ve never sailed on any other river ships for comparative purposes.

Our Viking River Cruise Veranda Stateroom Review

We did make the accommodations work for our week-long cruise, but it would have been nice to have a bit more space in the closet and bathroom. It was also a tight squeeze to walk between the foot of the bed and the dresser. We missed having a sofa as well.

But, we did enjoy having a traditional balcony and some of the other upgrades like heated bathroom floors and twice daily stateroom service which is a thing of the past on most mainstream cruise lines.

Overall, river cruises are more about the destinations than the ship anyway. So, it’s always a benefit to have our accommodations, dining, and transportation taken care of for us. The ability to pack and unpack once while exploring multiple destinations is why we love cruising in all its forms–ocean, expedition, and river!

The post We Stayed in a New Sun Princess Balcony Cabin and Share How It Compares to the Competition appeared first on EatSleepCruise.com.

]]>

We recently sailed on Princess Cruises’ newest ship, Sun Princess. This new Sphere-Class vessel is an innovation for the brand. As the largest ship in the current Princess Cruises fleet, Sun Princess is certainly more modern and sophisticated; yet, it’s still distinctly Princess.

One area where Princess Cruises really elevated the design on Sun Princess is the staterooms. Among the 2100+ staterooms, there are 80 Signature Collection Suites, 100 connecting staterooms, no obstructed view cabins, new Cabana staterooms, and completely redesigned balcony cabins.

During our recent Sun Princess cruise, we stayed in a balcony stateroom, our usual cruise cabin preference. How do these newly elevated accommodations compare to other cruise lines? Well, we break down all the details with our Sun Princess balcony cabin review.

Our Sun Princess Balcony Cabin Review

Our Sun Princess Balcony Cabin Review

When it comes to selecting your ideal cabin on any cruise ship, you’ll need to consider several factors, like price and location.

After 80+ cruises, we have become accustomed to the standard features of balcony staterooms. Surprisingly though, the standard balcony rooms on Princess ships always fell short when compared to the competition.

Even on Discovery Princess which launched in March 2022, the entry level balconies did not include a sofa, necessitating an upgrade to a deluxe balcony cabin or mini-suite if you wanted this setup which comes standard on most other cruise lines. The bathrooms too felt a bit outdated, as they still contained shower curtains versus a glass-enclosed shower found on many newer ships from competitor brands.

So, we were excited to learn that Princess Cruises finally listened to its customers with the new Sun Princess balcony cabin. Now, all balcony rooms are deluxe balcony cabins which means more thoughtfully deigned space, storage, and a sofa. These cabins also have a new and improved bathroom, with modern finishes and a brand-new shower design with a glass door. But, how exactly do they live up to the competition?

Our Sun Princess Balcony Cabin Review

For our sailing, we were assigned a Deck 14 forward-located cabin, cabin 14220. This category DB balcony is located on the portside of the ship forward of the forward bank of elevators. Still, it wasn’t too far of a walk to access the elevators and stairs.

The cabin location is only a few decks away from the Deck 17 Lido and a short walk or ride down to the hub of the ship on Decks 7-9.

Inside a Sun Princess Balcony Cabin

Layout

According to the Princess Cruises’ website, this Sun Princess balcony cabin is 236 square feet.

Immediately upon entering the room, the bathroom was to the right and the closet was to the left. Continuing past the bathroom and closet, the desk was to the left and the sofa was to the right.

The bed in our Sun Princess balcony cabin was on the forward wall facing midship. The bed was positioned next to the balcony door, which is our preferred layout. The television was also located on the wall opposite from the bed, and there was a decent-sized nightstand on each side of the bed.

Our Sun Princess Balcony Cabin Review

Finally, there is the balcony, which felt somewhat roomier than balconies on competitor cruise lines. The balcony had two upright chairs and a small table.

Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with this Sun Princess balcony cabin. We appreciated the new layout and decor, which puts the cabin on par with similar staterooms on other new mega ships from the likes of Celebrity Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line.

Bathroom

The bathroom in this Sun Princess balcony cabin is a vast upgrade from other ships in the Princess fleet. It features a new and improved layout. It also features marble finishes and premium bath products including hand soap. The only odd feature is that the bath towels are stored under the sink and behind the shower door.

Opening the bathroom door, the stand-up shower was to our left and the toilet to the right, with the sink directly in front. There are a few shelves for storage off to one side and adequate counter space. Though, it always helps that we bring an over-the-door shoe organizer to store toiletries and other small items.

The rectangular shower set-up offers a bit more space, and the best part is you’ll no longer have to deal with the dreaded shower curtain cling. Further, the shower contains a shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel dispenser, along with a small shave bar.

Another interesting design feature is that the shower knob was not under the shower head in our bathroom but instead on the side wall, which meant I kept hitting my arm on it.

Closet

Across from the bathroom are the closets. While we did really like the former walk-in closet on Princess ships, we’ll take the trade for the other new and improved room features.

These newly redesigned closets seemed on par with other cruise lines in terms of size. The closet offers a combination of lower shelves and a clothes bar with hangers. Then, there is additional shelving and drawers off to one side. To be precise, there are three lower drawers, two exposed shelves, and two shelves within an upper cabinet that also contains the safe.

Our Sun Princess Balcony Cabin Review

This setup provided adequate storage during our voyage. Of course, we always pack magetic hooks as well to hang items like bags and jackets on the cabin walls.

Main Cabin

Both the desk and loveseat are generously-sized in this Sun Princess balcony cabin. The desk had enough counter space to double as a work/charging area and a vanity area for getting ready. Above the desk off to one side are two shelves for storing electronics, bottles of water, or other accessories.

The desk also has small drawers for additional storage, along with the mini-fridge. Further, you will find several power outlets at the desk, and probably the most within any cruise ship cabin overall. There are a total of 2 USB outlets, 2 USB-C outlets, 3 power outlets, and 1 European outlet near the desk area.

The vanity area features a mirror, comfy chair, and a coveted Dry Bar hairdryer.

In terms of the sofa, it is plenty big for two adults to sit comfortably. There is also a small, round table nearby that could be positioned where you needed it.

The bed in this Sun Princess balcony cabin is closer to the veranda with a nightstand on each side of the bed. Here, you’ll also find 1 USB, 1 USB-C, and 1 power outlet on each side! And the signature Princess luxury bed provided all the comforts of home.

Balcony

Lastly, there is the balcony which always provides a great spot for watching the ocean views. It also usually becomes our place to do some work in the afternoon.

Perhaps slightly deeper than some cruise ship balconies, this one on Sun Princess is pretty typical. It features two upright chairs and a small table. Unlike some cruise lines though, the chairs do not have ottomans to go along with them.

Our Sun Princess Balcony Cabin Review

If you are looking for more living space, the new Cabana mini-suites look fantastic. They offer an additional patio-style area between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

Recap of Our Sun Princess Balcony Cabin Review

Our Sun Princess balcony room offered plenty of comfort, storage, and all of the amenities you expect to find in a standard stateroom on a megaship, including a sofa. Plus, some upgrades like the Dry Bar hair dryer, premium Beekman 1802 bath products, and an abundance of outlets.

The muted color palette with light wood tones and subltle nautical blue and green accents complement the upscale décor found around the rest of the ship. The marble finishes and bathroom redesign are leaps and bounds above other ships in the fleet.

We really liked our Sun Princess balcony cabin and wouldn’t hesitate to book this room category again.

Overall, we think the cabins on this ship finally elevate Princess Cruises to the same level as the competitors making Sun Princess a great option for the 21st century cruiser.

We Stayed in a Carnival Jubilee Balcony Room – Here’s Our Review https://eatsleepcruise.com/carnival-jubilee-balcony-room/ https://eatsleepcruise.com/carnival-jubilee-balcony-room/#respond Mon, 20 May 2024 13:00:00 +0000 https://eatsleepcruise.com/?p=86556 We stayed in a Carnival Jubilee balcony room and break down all the details on how it compares to other cruise lines in our latest review.

We recently sailed on Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ship out of Galveston, Texas. During this Western Caribbean cruise on Carnival Jubilee, we stayed in a balcony stateroom, our usual cruise cabin preference. How do these accommodations compare to other cruise lines? Well, we break down all the details with our Carnival Jubilee balcony room review.

Our Carnival Jubilee Balcony Room Review

Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ship offers a variety of room categories. When it comes to selecting your ideal cabin, you’ll need to consider several factors, like price and location.

After 80+ cruises, we have become accustomed to the standard features of balcony staterooms. Surprisingly though, a standard balcony room on Carnival Jubilee is considerably less expensive than the competition, Icon of the Seas for instance.

Carnival Jubilee Balcony Room Review

For our sailing, we were assigned a Deck 12 forward-located cabin, cabin 12235. This category 8D balcony is located on the starboard side of the ship forward of the forward bank of elevators. Still, it wasn’t too far of a walk to access the elevators and stairs.

The cabin location is only a few decks away from the Deck 16 Lido and a short walk or ride down to the hub of the ship on Decks 6-8.

Inside a Carnival Jubilee Balcony Room

Layout

According to the Carnival Cruise Line website, this Carnival Jubilee balcony room is 249 square feet– 205 square feet of interior space with a 44 square foot balcony.

Immediately upon entering the room, the bathroom was to the right and the closet was to the left. Continuing past the bathroom and closet, the desk was to the left and the loveseat was to the right.

The bed in our Carnival Jubilee balcony room was on the midship wall facing forward. The bed was positioned next to the balcony door, which is our preferred layout. The television was also located on the wall opposite from the bed, and there was a very small nightstand of sorts on each side of the bed.

Carnival Jubilee Balcony Room Review

Finally, there is the balcony, which felt roomier than balconies on some competitor cruise lines. The balcony had two upright chairs and a small table.

Overall, the cabin was on par with our expectations and very similar to Carnival Celebration which we sailed in 2022. While the finishes and décor of cabins on Carnival’s Excel Class ships are rather simplistic, they do feature more storage than similar mega-ships.

Bathroom

The bathroom in this Carnival Jubilee balcony room was pretty average sized for a cruise ship bathroom. Yet again, it is rather simplistic in terms of style and décor.

Opening the door, the stand-up shower was to our left and the toilet to the right, with the sink directly in front. There are a few shelves for storage off to one side; although, not much counter space. It always helps that we bring an over-the-door shoe organizer to store toiletries and other small items.

Carnival Jubilee Balcony Room Review

The square shower set-up offers a bit more space than the traditional cylinder-style shower. The innovative glass door makes it easier to get in and out as well. Further, the shower contains a shampoo and shower gel dispenser.

Closet

Across from the bathroom are the closets. The closet sizes seemed on par with other cruise lines, just more efficiently designed for extra storage. We liked the setup with a series of configurable shelves and clothes hangers in each closet. The safe is also located here, along with a few metal drawers for additional storage.

Main Cabin

Both the desk and loveseat are generously-sized. The desk had enough counter space to double as a work/charging area and a vanity area for getting ready. Above the desk off to one side are two shelves for storing electronics, bottles of water, or other accessories.

The desk also has three drawers for additional storage, along with the mini-fridge. Further, the desk is where you will find the majority of outlets in this cabin. There are 4 USB outlets and 3 power outlets.

The vanity area features a mirror and cushioned stool.

In terms of the sofa, it is plenty big for two adults to sit comfortably. It served a duel purpose as a makeshift office and a storage space for souvenirs, beach towels, and the like during our sailing on Carnival Jubilee. Although, the one drawback was that it doesn’t have any toss pillows.

The bed in this Carnival Jubilee balcony cabin is closer to the veranda with small shelves that serve as nightstands on each side of the bed. Luckily though, there are USB outlets near the bed, one on each side, which came in handy for charging phones overnight.

The bed provided adequate comfort during our trip. We had no issues falling asleep after our long days and nights on Carnival Jubilee.

Balcony

Lastly, there is the balcony which always provides a great spot for watching the ocean views. It also usually becomes our place to do some work in the afternoon.

Perhaps slightly deeper than some cruise ship balconies, this one on Carnival Jubilee is pretty typical. It features two upright chairs and a small table. Unlike some cruise lines though, the chairs do not have ottomans to go along with them.

Carnival Jubilee Balcony Room Review

Recap of Our Carnival Jubilee Balcony Room Review

Our Carnival Jubilee balcony room offered plenty of storage and all of the amenities you expect in a standard stateroom on a megaship. The room is outfitted with all the necessities even if it isn’t as elegantly appointed as cabins on other cruise lines.

These balcony cabins are an ideal mix of size and value when sailing on Carnival’s Excel Class ships. And compared to other newer megaships, the pricing makes them a great deal.

However, while this balcony room was functional during our week-long cruise, we think the staterooms on Carnival cruise ships lack personality overall. With light beechwood tones and nautical blue hues, there are minimal additional accents or thoughtfulness in the decor beyond that.

For cruisers looking for balcony rooms with more character and charm, the Havana Staterooms on Carnival Jubilee might be a good option to consider.

There are plenty of options for extending your stay when cruising from Port Everglades. For a recent cruise, we found the perfect spot right on the beach. Offering plenty of amenities and activities, there was no reason for us to leave. Well, there was the cruise of course. See why we can’t wait to return to this Fort Lauderdale resort in our exclusive Marriott Harbor Beach Resort Hotel Review from 2021.

Marriott Harbor Beach Resort Hotel Review

Marriott Harbor Beach Resort – Location and Transportation

It’s hard to believe that some cruisers still fly into port on the day of their cruise. Yes, it is true that the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airport is only a short distance away from Port Everglades. In fact, it’s less than 5 miles away. This cruise terminal is easily accessed by taxi, Uber, bus, rail, or airport transfers.

Marriott Harbor Beach Resort Hotel Review

Still, we always suggest flying a day before your cruise. This is especially important with all of the delays, cancellations, and headaches when traveling right now.

Not to mention, one thing we love about cruising from Fort Lauderdale is the surrounding area and the plethora of things to do.

Our recent sailing on Celebrity Edge was the first sailing in the U.S. in 2021, so we did not want to take any chances. There was no way we were missing this historic cruise.

Is it safe to cruise - Marriot Harbor Beach Resort Hotel Review

Having stayed at a number of the hotels near the Fort Lauderdale cruise port in the past, we wanted something different. Thus, we opted for a stay at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa. This resort appealed to us as it had the ideal mix of accommodations, amenities, and dining for a relaxing pre-cruise stay.

Of note, if you are driving to the hotel, parking will cost you $39 a day.

Marriott Harbor Beach Resort – Amenities

Upon checking into the hotel, guests are given a bracelet to indicate they are staying on property. This provides access to all the resort amenities and the 16-acre beachfront.

The resort package includes WiFi, one fitness class per day, two beach chairs per day, two welcome beverages, one hour rental of non-motorized sports equipment, and more.

Perhaps the biggest draw for us was the beach. The Marriott Harbor Beach Resort is located at the south end of Fort Lauderdale Beach. Given its secluded location, guests have access to a quarter mile of private beachfront real estate.

Marriott Harbor Beach Resort Hotel Review

Besides two loungers, guests also have access to beach towels and beachside attendants to help make you feel even more pampered.

The resort also boasts an 8,000 square-foot lagoon pool with plenty of loungers and umbrellas, not to mention attractive water features as well. For those who want to splurge a bit, cabanas are available to rent too.

If you want to add a little activity to your day, the hotel features a fully-equipped Fitness Center with strength and cardio equipment and fitness classes for an additional fee. There are also onsite tennis courts and a basketball court.

For those who want to have a more extreme time, watersport rentals are available as well. The resort offers options like kayaks, wave runners, and paddleboards depending on your need for speed.

For those looking for some rejuvenation, the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort also features a 22,000-square-foot spa offering a variety of treatments, a private pool, sauna, steam room, and whirlpool with great ocean views.

Be sure to check the hotel lobby for a daily activity schedule.

Marriott Harbor Beach Resort – Restaurants and Bars

We actually discovered this hotel during one of our other pre-cruise stays in Fort Lauderdale. While staying at a nearby resort, this hotel just so happened to have the closet Starbucks.

Marriot Harbor Beach Resort Hotel Review

After walking into the resort, we made a mental note that we needed to stay here in the future. The open, chic lobby offers incredible sight lines that showcase the private beach, and a Starbucks. So, it was a win-win for us.

When it comes to dining, the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort offers several options for restaurants and bars. There is casual fare at the HB Fresh. Located at the beach level, this venue offers smoothies, healthy snacks, and frozen yogurt.

Further, Riva is a family-friendly option serving up breakfast/brunch along with ocean views.

There is also al fresco dining at the Sea Level Restaurant and Ocean Bar. This is where we spent our evening enjoying the waves with a few drinks and snacks. You can’t go wrong with some cocktails, tortillas and guacamole, and Blackened Mahi Tacos!

Marriott Harbor Beach Resort Hotel Review

3030 Ocean Restaurant is the resort’s upscale seafood restaurant open nightly for dinner. The 3030 Bar also offers a selection of hand-crafted cocktails.

Additionally, if you are looking for something a little more intimate, you can reserve a Barefoot Dining table on the beach.

Lastly, the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort has a beautiful oceanview terrace complete with firepits where you can enjoy some cocktails and the ocean breeze. The Loggerhead Sand Bar is another great spot to grab drinks right on the beach.

Marriott Harbor Beach Resort – Hotel King Room

The Marriott Harbor Beach Resort hotel features one central tower with 15 floors, 619 rooms, and 31 suites. The resort’s guest rooms, lobby, and restaurants have all been somewhat recently renovated.

For our stay at this hotel, we booked a King Bed Oceanfront View Guest Room. Yes, for a premium, you can even score ocean views from your balcony. These rooms are advertised as 338 square feet and feature all the comforts of home.

Marriott Harbor Beach Resort Hotel Review

With a neutral color-palette and simplistic décor, the room offers all the sophistication and functionality you need for a beachside getaway.

The hotel room comes complete with complimentary bottled water, a coffee maker, mini-fridge, 49 inch TV, and complimentary WiFi.

Additionally, there is a small desk, loveseat with ottoman, and plenty of outlets to charge all your devices in prep for cruise embarkation day.

Our king-sized bed delivered the perfect night’s sleep after a full day at the resort with plenty of space to spread out.

The bathroom was adequate in size for a couple as well, including a glass-enclosed shower and bath products.

Recap of Marriott Harbor Beach Resort Hotel Review

For our one night, pre-cruise stay at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort, we were certainly spoiled. In fact, we did not have enough time to experience all the hotel has to offer.

We spent most of our day on the beach, even if the weather didn’t want to fully cooperate. While the lagoon pool looked great, we didn’t get a chance to take a dip.

For dinner, we enjoyed the outdoor terrace along with food and drinks from the Sea Level Restaurant and Ocean Bar. We even spotted a cruise ship sailing away from Port Everglades.

Overall, the hotel features more than enough dining options and activities to satisfy all types of travelers. The rooms are open-concept and provided more than enough space for the two of us. We particularly enjoyed the ocean views from our balcony.

We can certainly see ourselves staying at this hotel again when cruising from Fort Lauderdale. While a bit pricey, this 4-star hotel provides upscale accommodations for the refined traveler. Whether you are looking to extend your cruise vacation or for a quick beach getaway, you can’t go wrong with the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort hotel.

Recap Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Bahamas Hotel Review

For our one night, pre-cruise stay at the Grand Hyatt, we were certainly spoiled. In fact, we did not have nearly enough time to experience all the hotel has to offer.

The hotel features more than enough dining options and activities to satisfy all types of travelers. With the new waterpark and additional restaurants now open, there are even more options to custom your stay in the Bahamas.

For those who would prefer to relax, there is a long stretch of private beach and several pools too, each with unique theming and décor.

Our original flights had us arriving earlier in the day so we could experience more of the resort. Sadly though, flight cancellations and delays meant we did not have enough time to really enjoy the facilities.

The hotel room itself had an open concept design and plenty of space for the two of us.

We could certainly see ourselves staying at this hotel again or one of the other sister hotels on the property. While we almost exclusively cruise for our vacations, we wouldn’t think twice about planning a mini-getaway at this resort.

For those looking to extend their stay in the Bahamas for several days, this resort offers more than enough things to do, see, and eat.

Our top hotels near the San Juan cruise port will help you find the ideal place for your stay!

The historic Condado Vanderbilt Hotel is located right on Ashford Street next to the beach. This revitalized site offers travelers a glimpse into the decadence of the early 1920’s. The remodeled hotel captures the timeless elegance and charm of that time period. Yet, it boasts modern features that do not feel out of place.

Inside this Spanish revival building, the hotel boasts several elegant features. The main tower of the hotel features two exquisite bars and even a cigar lounge. There is also the hotel’s signature restaurant, 1919, by Michelin Star-rated Executive Chef Juan José Cuevas.

Other dining options include Tacos and Tequila, where we dined during our stay at the Condado Vanderbilt earlier this year. This restaurant offers al fresco dining and a selection of small plates and entrees. Not to mention, some perfectly blended cocktails and live music on the weekends. The hotel also features a signature steakhouse for dinner and the Ola Oceanfront casual restaurant which is open all day. During the day, you will want to enjoy all the resort has to offer. There is the adults-only pool area with two pools and a whirlpool. Or, there is the main pool area, including an infinity pool and the mojito bar. This is where we soaked up some sun before our Freedom of the Seas Southern Caribbean Cruise.

The Condado Vanderbilt also has a spa offering several different treatments and experiences, as well as a complimentary fitness center. The resort fee includes WiFi throughout the property, as well as access to the pools and beach.

The 450 square foot City View king room offers plush accommodations. The hotel’s Rivolta Carmignani linen bedding offered a restful night sleep during our stay. With a neutral color palette, the room exudes beach vibes with modern elegance and plenty of amenities.

One reason we like this brand of hotels, along with the clean and spacious rooms, is the added amenities. All individuals staying at the hotel can enjoy an evening reception. This event includes a mix of complimentary snacks and alcoholic beverages. In the morning, a fresh, made to order breakfast is also part of the total hotel fee. The best part is that there are no hidden costs (i.e., resort fees) for all of the hotel’s additional services.

If you have cruised to Puerto Rico before, you have probably seen the colorful Sheraton Old San Juan. This hotel is literally across the street from the Old San Juan cruise port. Thus, this perfectly situated hotel offers an amazing location, with all of the comforts you would expect to find at a moderate hotel. Prior to our Southern Caribbean cruise on Freedom of the Seas, we spent two pre-cruise days in Puerto Rico. One of our favorite islands, Puerto Rico has plenty to do, see, and eat. Or, you can just relax and enjoy the beautiful weather and beaches. On this trip, we decided to do just that. We upgraded our typical accommodations with two days at the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel in San Juan. Was it worth it? Find out with our Condado Vanderbilt Hotel Review.

Condado Vanderbilt Hotel Review in San Juan

A Step Back in Time

The historic Condado Vanderbilt Hotel is located right next to Condado Beach. This revitalized site offers travelers a glimpse into the decadence of the early 1920’s. The remodeled hotel captures the timeless elegance and charm of the time period. Yet, it boasts modern features that do not feel out of place.

The hotel’s exterior, which resembles the original Spanish revival architecture on a grander scale, is your entryway to a luxurious resort that is a destination itself.

Exterior to Condado Vanderbilt in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Inside the main entrance, a grandiose staircase and marble lined floors welcome guests with a warm and inviting feel. From this central location, you are in the middle of the action. Here, the Vanderbilt Court hosts two distinct bars and the hotel’s signature restaurant, 1919.

Condado Vanderbilt Hotel Review

The Princess and I made sure to grab a few drinks from the Marabar Martini Bar on both evenings. It was the ideal way to enjoy our evenings after a long day in the sun.

Tucked away in a corner of this main area is the Avo Lounge, the hotel’s cigar lounge. Down the hall, you will also find the modern steakhouse, STK Restaurant, and the more casual Tacos and Tequila offering al fresco dining with live music on the weekends.

Tacos and Tequilas at Condado Vanderbilt Hotel in San Juan

Our al fresco dinner at this venue was delicious, featuring amazing sunset views, along with some tasty food and drinks.

Condado Vanderbilt Hotel Amenities

With two days before our cruise departure, we were able to enjoy many of the resort’s amenities.

While the resort does boast a small beach, there are also two distinct pool areas that were perfect for us to kick-back and enjoy our Caribbean escape.

In the Beach Tower, there is the adults only pool area. This secluded section provides just the right amount of privacy and space for a quieter pool experience. It includes two pools, loungers, and plenty of shade.

The hotel is located right on the water, with plenty of outdoor seating lining the back of the resort. This area is elevated to showcase the beautiful ocean views.

For a more lively pool day experience, guests can make their way to the Spa Tower. Here, the main pool is located, as well as the infinity pool that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.

Similar to a cruise ship, you do need to arrive rather early to get a prime lounger. Still, the attendants were able to secure us two loungers with an umbrella at various times during our stay.

In addition, there is bar service available from the nearby mojito bar. Also, this pool area is a short walk to the oceanfront bistro, Ola. This restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a Sunday brunch as well. Our lunch here on the second day was both convenient and satisfying, as were the mojitos!

With picture-perfect weather and beautiful ocean views, we spent most of our time relaxing and soaking up the sun. So, we did not step foot in the gym or the spa. Still, these facilities are available, and we are certain they live up to the hotel’s high standard for quality and service.

Our City View King Room at Condado Vanderbilt

We booked our City View King Room in the newly updated Tower 3 months before our trip. This spacious 450 square foot room offered us posh accommodations that were twice as large as our balcony cabin on Freedom of the Seas. The hotel’s premium Rivolta Carmignani linen bedding offered a comfortable night sleep after our lazy days in the sun.

Where the public areas of the hotel certainly had the charm and grandeur of the time period, our room was all about modern design and amenities. With a neutral color palette, the room exudes beach vibes. Which of course go perfectly with the tropical Puerto Rican weather!

While muted in decor, the white marble floors, hardwood dresser and television stand, and other accessories remind you that this is a five star resort. Also, unlike other similar accommodations, WiFi access is not an up-charge.

In addition to the small sitting area, there were plenty of in-room conveniences as well, such as a coffee maker featuring premium Puerto Rican coffee and bottled water.

Marble Bathroom in Condado Vanderbilt Hotel

The spacious, marble bathroom had a spa feel with C.O. Bigelow amenities and plush bamboo towels. Not to mention, the over-sized walk-in shower.

Recap of Condado Vanderbilt Hotel Review

Our two-day stay at Condado Vanderbilt in San Juan, Puerto Rico was a relaxing and indulgent time. We were able to recharge is style and sophistication, as we were well taken care of by the attentive staff. This is why the hotel ranks among our picks for the best hotels near the San Juan cruise port.

The onsite lounges, restaurants, and outdoor spaces meant we did not have to leave the resort for anything. Well, except for the Princess’ morning iced latte from Starbucks. The resort caters to the every need of its guests, while executing on its promise of luxury and style.

The charming retro feel of the public areas certainly gives the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel character, appealing to those who like unique and authentic locations. This is certainly not your ordinary hotel. It is a destination itself.

The high-end finishes seamlessly blend early 20th century charm with more modern accents for a one-of-a-kind resort. While it was a bit more pricey than a typical hotel, it was certainly worth every penny for this 5-star experience. Especially given that this was our last trip before the pandemic, we are more than happy that we splurged on this hotel.

After such a lavish stay, I am not sure if I will be able to convince the Princess to stay at another moderate resort again!
